Trap Shooting Guns
While there is no one designated gun to use in trap shooting, there are some that work better than others. Sometimes the guns can be modified, and other times guns are made just for trap shooters. Whatever gun you decide to use will be dependant on your personal skill level and how much of a challenge that you are looking for.
Shotguns for Trap Shooting
Trap guns are different from others in several ways. They normally shoot higher as the traps are nearly always shot on the rise, they are usually made of higher grade wood, ande have an adjustable comb, butt plate or both; and they have longer barrels and anything from a modified to a full choke.
Trap Shooting Gun
There really isn't any specific gun that you will need for trap shooting, however 12 guage is typically preferred. There are however specially configured trap guns, but you don't need one of these to trap shoot. Having a belt with a countainer for holding shotgun shells is also useful.
Trap Guns
There is no designated gun for trap shooting. The recommended size to start with for beginners is 12 guage, and there are some specially designed guns for shooting trap but these are not necessary. There is not very much difference between these guns and a regular gun, and with a few modifications your shot gun can also be ready to shoot trap.
Top Trap Gun
The best gun for shooting trap is still the 12 guage. You can have this gun modified with a choke to help it become even better for shooting trap. The key is to find which gun that you think will work the best for your experience level.
Best Shotgun for Trap
As has been said, the best shotgun you can start out with for shooting trap is a 12 guage. There are certain modifications available for your gun that will help to improve your scores, but these are not very necessary.
Best Guns for Shooting Trap
The best gun for shooting trap is none other than the 12 guage gun. If you are looking for a challenge in your shots, try using a gun with smaller barrel, and if you are wanting something easier, try adding a full or modified choke to the gun.
Trap Guns for Sale
Trap guns are sold typically at trap ranges or at large gun retailers. Some trap guns are also available through online sites. Other times a regular gun can simply be modified. For more information, check with the Amatuer Trapshooting Association.
Trap Shooting Choke
Choke refers to the amount of constriction in the bore of the shotgun barrel. The constriction will squeeze the shot charge mass just before leaving the gun, which keeps the shot charge pellets from spreading too much. The more the constriction, the tighter the concentration of the shot in flight at any given distance.
Trap Shooting 410
A 410 shotgun is the smallest possible gun that you can use to shoot trap. Most people do not start out with this guage, however experienced shooters will sometimes use them in novelty competitions due to the challenge that such a small bore presents.
Winchester 101 Trap
The Winchester 101 model is one of the better trap specific guns available. Like all Winchester guns, it is made of high grade wood and has fine engraving. A 12 grade Winchester is perhaps one of the best guns available for trap shooting.
28 Guage Shotgun
The 28 guage is the second smallest shotgun you can use to shoot trap and offers excellent handling ease. Typically since 28 guages carry about 25% fewer pellets than others, they are only used by skilled shooters.
Trap Shooting Ammunition
Ammunition for trap shooting can be purchased nearly anywhere, however the maximum allowable ammunition is 1-1/8 ounce. Maximum loads are usually only needed for long handicaps or the second doubles shot. American trap is also shot with lead larget ammo, with a shot size between 7 1/2 and 9.
